I just felt I had to write and commend you on your brilliant performance on Saturday night in Dinnington Church. I was visiting relatives after going to see my beloved 'Blades' beat my now local team Bury
I have attended numerous Brass Band Concerts in Dinnington over the years and I am amazed why other bands are brought in to perform when we have by far the best band in the area. They always put on a superb programme to suit all tastes and in my opinion they are a credit to the village and more people should recognise this fact when organising local functions.
WELL DONE DCB KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK AND GOOD LUCK AT THE FINALS!

HI Everyone Just finished watching the last episode fo a Band for Britain - fantastic - if you still have doubts about your ability just watch this episode again - who are Grimethorpe anyway?? The whole series was inspiring, encouraging and motivating. Ordinary people doing extra ordinary things and making a real difference - outstanding individual performances supported by a great team. Keep up the good work and my best wishes for the future.

Brilliant series, I do not play an instrument but love wind/brass music. My children played in their younger days, but sadly not now. I manage the 60 strong Gloucestershire Youth Wind Orchestra aged 11 - 19 and grade 5+. I am also a member of Stroud Brass Band Festival which, unfortunately is closing after its 45th season with Grimethorpe in June. Enjoy and keep playing. Regards to you all.

My wife and I love to sit and listen to a brass band playing, but unfortunately we don't very often get the chance these days. Watched the Band for Britain programmes, and what an improvement you made over the time they were made. It was good to see all the new recruits. Also good to see the training band was getting going. I've now just watched you online (on the ITV player), in the Alan Titchmarsh show, you certainly have improved so much since the Band for Britain programmes were made. I've got the original '45' record (1976) of the Brighouse and Rastrick Band, playing The Floral Dance, and I would say your rendition of it today was far superior. Good luck for the future, I'm sure you will go on to challenge The Grimethorpe Colliery Band. Thank you for giving us some very enjoyable viewing. Shirley and Laurie Welllard.

I just wanted to say you lot are bloody brilliant. My wife and I watched the three episodes and we think it was the best tele we've seen in a long time. I won't single anybody out because you were all so good. Not just in the band, but out of it as well. You all gell, you joke and have a laugh and best of all you show the rest of us what being in a brass band is all about and it looks wonderful. I never thought about it before, but after watching the programme I just wish I had been born into your town and had the opportunity of learning to play an instrument. Dee and I wish you all the very best and hope that Sue Perkins might persuade the tv bosses to let her do a revisit in 6 or 12 months time to see how things have moved on. Best wishes Dee & Ted

Hello, I have just heard the new 'Band for Britain' album by Dinnington Colliery Band and think it is brilliant. In my opinion, Dinnington and Grimethorpe Colliery bands are on the same level quality wise but unfortunately not fame-wise. They are much more well known now though because of their appearances tonight and the following two Mondays in BBC Two's 'A Band for Britain'. Good luck with tours and concerts in the future. You will have to do one in Manchester's Bridgewater Hall at some point this year. All the best and many thanks.

For the benefit of visitors to our "Band for Britain" Guest Book and for Mr Peter Butterley (E-mail of 26.03.10) in particular; I would like to say that during my time as band secretary (just starting my 36th year), we have never "encouraged" players from other bands to leave and join us. The players who joined during the TV series were new registrations and, with the exception of one, all left as soon as the cameras stopped rolling; which was last November. In addition to this one, we also have four ex-Dinnington registered players who, because we are now able to contest again, transferred back to the band. I can't see where this is causing other bands to suffer because their players are joining us. Finally, "No," Mr Butterley, we don't have any spare tuba players. infact we are short of a BBb bass player!

I watched the programme "A Band for Britain" and freely admit to having a little weep when you played the National Anthem at the Rugby Match and again, at the end when you played William Tells Overture. As a life-long brass enthusiast I thoroughly enjoyed watching the mini-series "A Band For Britain". I then purchased the band's CD of the same title and am well impressed with the quality of the playing from a band that, before the TV show, was virtually defunct. Well done to all of you at Dinnington Colliery Band and keep up the good work. Who knows, you may be back at the Royal Albert Hall sooner than anyone expected (including yourselves!).

Hello Dinnington. We are members of St.Pinnock Band in Cornwall. When we saw your band on the tv the name of the band rang a bell with us, so looked on your website to see if there were any old photographs. There were and on one of them was Joe Armstrong and his son-in-law Roy Vernon. Joe came to Cornwall in 1965 to conduct our band. Joe once told me that he took Dinnington from 4th to Championship section in 8 years! He did a similar thing with us. (We are currently 2nd section, last at Harrogate in 2006 3rd section) Norman joined St. Pinnock that year 3 years later was principal, Joe taught us and we have fond memories of his time with us. He died 4 or 5 years ago in his 90's. Have a look at our website, there is a picture on the history page of the band winning their first contest for a number of years under his baton. We enjoyed the programme about your band as we have 'all been there' at one time or another, it is very hard to keep continuity of a band in this day and age. We are currently trying to get our training band kick started again. Regards Norman & Fiona Pendray

To have come so far in such a short time is an incredible achievement and one which I am sure you are all, rightfully, proud of. What a superb job you all did, with Sue's tremendous enthusiasm-Well Done. Now I have a puzzle, at the begining of the second programme, immediately after the titles (2m 0secs on the BBC iPlayer) a piece was played in the background which I think is a hymn but for the life of me, I cannot identify it. Can you help with the title and especially, what band was playing it? Is the recording available? It wasn't Dinnington playing was it? I would love to find a way to get the band down here to the South coast-what about a summer tour?

Hi to all involved with the band at Dinnington. I just caught up with the third prog in the tv series. I come from a traditional youth band background with the scouts. I started aged 11, and now after 25 years plus, I am our assistant bandmaster and still enjoying playing. We were only novice band level when I joined, but progressed to become National Marching Band Champions of the Scout Association. It just shows what can be achieved when you have great leadership team combined with a bunch of enthusiasm from the band-members as well. Best of luck for 2010 Dinnington, you guys rock!!!
