Saturday 22nd June

The band had a very enjoyable evening playing to a wonderful audience at the Annual Summer Proms held at The Grange, Clifton, Micklebring.   Once again many thanks to Malcolm and his wife for  the use of their premises.  The programme opened with the rousing march ‘Castell Coch’ and this was followed by a varied programme to suit all tastes.  Four soloists were featured, the first to be featured was Caroline Avery playing the cornet solo ‘Share my Yoke’, next was Norman Horton playing the ever popular flugel solo ‘ Under the Boardwalk’ , the third soloist to take the stand was Matthew Reed playing ‘The Laughing Trombone’ a good old ‘oldie.  Finally in the absence of our Solo Euphonium player our 2nd Euphonium  Paula Johnson did us proud with her rendition of ‘Benedictus’.  The whole evening was rounded off with a rousing selection of the proms music in which the audience took great delight in participating.  Earlier on in the day Tony Draper our EEb Bass player took part  (and completed) a 41 mile sponsored walk starting at 2am and finishing at 6pm this was  in aid of a Childrens Charity,  Thank you to the organisers and audience for the collection made towards Tony’s sponsorship. Thank you to the players who depped for the band.
